Orthoptics

The origin of the word ORTHOPTIC comes from the Greek ORTHO which means RIGHT and OPSI which refers to the VISION or EYE.

Orthoptics is a paramedical profession performed by a medical assistant, the Orthoptist.

The mission of the Orthoptist is screening, reeducation, rehabilitation and functional exploration of vision problems. His function covers from infants to the elderly.

Proven visual diseases are binocular imbalances, strabismus and amblyopia.

In cases of poor vision, after specific reeducation of visual function, it implements a proper training for a good use of optical aids.

When there is a deficit of vision, Orthoptist advises patient on the refurbishment of his workplace, the lighting, the distance eye - screen to enable the best use of its visual capabilities.

The Orthoptist works on medical prescription and thus works with every doctor. He has a link with paramedical professionals and opticians who are responsible for the optical equipment.
